Having discovered that the Motorola Droid doubles as a decent action sports camcorder, I have been doing a lot of experimenting with mounting it on my motorcycle to capture the casual rider experience for the members of my readership who have never enjoyed the fun of riding.
So I have forward facing video and some close-up video of my helmet encased cranium and shoulders while riding.
It’s just not good enough.
The next step is a fairly simple rig that will position the Droid about three feet in front of the bike instead of on the handle bar. This should give it enough field of view to show the rider (yours truly) as well as the receding scenery and a good portion of The Precious (my Triumph Rocket III). While I imagine this will produce video that I will undoubtedly look really cool in, I will look really silly on the bike with the camera mount contraption while making said video.
Folks in Hollywood or the movie sets at Las Colinas might be used to seeing such things…folks in Grapevine not so much.
But then again, they ain’t used to seeing the Rocket III to start with, either.
